A destination on Exmoor
Emmetts on Exmoor is a private agricultural and moorland estate and at 1250 feet, it is the highest farm on the moor. Emmetts sits within the curtilage of the ancient village of Simonsbath which is the principal settlement in the civil parish of Exmoor. The main residence and the surrounding traditional farm buildings and courtyards were built in the 1840s by John Knight who had bought the entire Exmoor Forest from The Crown.
Emmetts is generally considered to be the best example of a Knight House and the estate boasts a plethora of features dating back to the time referred to as the reclamation of Exmoor including a large section of the old road to Simonsbath, a waterfall created by the Knights, extensive beech banks and a vast field gutter system.
The farm has been diversified in recent times and welcomes guests to a selection of accommodation throughout the year. It is the ideal location for a peaceful family break in the very heart of the Exmoor National Park. The Park is unique in its offering of fantastically clean air and spectacular dark skies and Emmetts has a host of activities just a stones throw away; walking, mountain biking, horse riding, sailing, fishing, shooting, outstanding beaches and country house tours, to name but a few!
Emmetts on Exmoor is more than just a place to stay, with almost 1000 acres of one-of-a-kind landscape to explore, babbling brooks and picnic spots a-plenty! Farm walks have been mapped for visitors and there is a full size tennis court on site. We can also arrange E-bike hire, photography, yoga classes, pony trekking, bush craft, a private chef – or anything else you have in mind – ready for your holiday.
